The decision came after Canada announced a digital service tax targeting tech companies, including major US corporations like Amazon, Google, and Meta, Trump said, calling it “a direct and blatant attack on our Country.”
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, the US President called Canada "a country that's very difficult to trade with," recalling that for years it has imposed tariffs of up to 400% on US dairy products.
President Trump’s decision risks plunging US-Canada relations into a new crisis, with serious impacts on bilateral trade, which exceeds 750 billion USD annually.
