Top leaders of Vietnam and Laos hold talks in Vientiane

(VOVWORLD) - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and a high-level delegation of the Vietnamese Party and State paid a state visit to Laos on Thursday at the invitation of Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith.

Following an official welcome ceremony in Vientiane, Party General Secretary To Lam and Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith held talks.

At the talks, Party General Secretary To Lam said: “High-level visits provide an important opportunity for the two sides to exchange views on major orientations in the relations between the two Parties and States and agree on key areas of cooperation to effectively implement the resolutions of each Party Congress in the new term."

"The Communist Party of Vietnam always regards the achievements of the Lao Party, State, and people as a shared joy, and consistently supports Laos in its cause of national construction and development. We are ready to work closely with the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party to further deepen the Vietnam-Laos great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation, considering this relationship an invaluable asset and a decisive factor for the success of their revolutionary causes, today and in the future,” said the Vietnamese Party leader.

Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith highly appreciated Party General Secretary To Lam’s decision to choose Laos as the first country to visit in his capacity as General Secretary of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He emphasized the special significance of the visit, noting that the Vietnamese delegation included Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

He expressed confidence that the historic visit would further strengthen and elevate the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic connectivity between Vietnam and Laos in a more substantive, effective, and in-depth manner, bringing tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.

The two leaders praised the recent substantive and effective development of bilateral cooperation, stressing that these achievements contribute to each country’s development and at the same time promote peace, stability, and development in the region.

They reached broad consensus on continuing to prioritize and effectively implement the outcomes of high-level agreements and the Joint Statement reached in December 2025, as well as the results of President Thongloun Sisoulith’s recent state visit to Vietnam (January 26–27).

The two sides agreed to further renew cooperation methods, enhance quality and effectiveness, closely link strategic vision with concrete action, and strengthen strategic coordination between the two Parties and States.

The leaders also exchanged views on global and regional developments and agreed to enhance consultation and coordination at multilateral forums, promote ASEAN unity, and to reinforce ASEAN’s central role.

Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing and exchange of important cooperation documents between ministries, sectors, localities, and relevant agencies of both countries in education, justice, and local-level cooperation, creating a stronger legal framework and new momentum for bilateral relations.
