(VOVWORLD) - President Donald Trump on Wednesday told reporters in the Oval Office that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner had a "reasonably good meeting" with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, but added that it was too early to predict the outcome of the negotiations.

Trump said President Putin would like to end the conflict, which has lasted nearly four years, while Kyiv has “essentially” backed the US proposal, though he added that Ukraine “should have done so much earlier.”

According to several officials, Witkoff and Kushner are expected to meet Ukraine’s chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, in Florida on Friday, following earlier discussions with Russian officials.

On Tuesday, Putin held a five-hour meeting at the Kremlin with Witkoff and Kushner. Speaking afterward, Russian Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov said both sides reviewed all proposed US plans to end the conflict, describing the talks as “constructive and useful,” while noting that no breakthrough had been reached on key issues.
