The announcement followed a meeting between Timor Leste’s Foreign Minister Luis Guterres and ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh in Jakarta on Tuesday. The ASEAN Secretariat said this visit is part of Timor-Leste’s efforts to attract ASEAN investment and pursue ASEAN membership. Guterres updated Minh on Timor Leste’s preparations to become an ASEAN member. Timor Leste submitted its application to join ASEAN in 2011 and has invited ASEAN foreign ministers to visit the country.
