For now the Chinese side only accepts entry of Chinese nationals who have valid passports and visas and are required to have negative PCR test results within 48 hours.

On Sunday, the first day that China reopened its border, more than 850 Chinese citizens exited Vietnam through Mong Cai border gate in Quang Ninh province and about 2,600 Chinese citizens exited Vietnam through Huu Nghi border gate in Lang Son province.

Chinese citizens stood in long lines waiting for exit procedures at Huu Nghi International Border Gate from Sunday morning. They are Chinese workers and experts who are returning to their hometown to celebrate Lunar New Year festival. As China has not yet planned entry for tourists and foreigners, quite a few Chinese-Vietnamese couples have not been able to exit the country together.

Also starting Sunday, the Chinese authority has canceled regulations on disease prevention, bringing import and export activities across the border almost back to the pre-COVID time.
