Thai PM visits border with Cambodia after leaked conversation

(VOVWORLD) -Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Friday visited the border with Cambodia, which aimed at boosting morale among soldiers and assess the situation in the Chong Bok border area,  where a brief confrontation occurred between the two sides on May 28.

The Prime Minister applauded 2nd Army Region Commander Lt Gen Boonsin Padklang and military personnel for their steadfast dedication and resilience in ensuring security along the Thai-Cambodian border. She also met with the Suranaree Task Force and said the government would provide full support to ensure the military’s well-being.

The visit followed a leaked phone call between her and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen, which mentioned the role of Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang in handling border issues between the two countries.

The Thai Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed the authenticity of the recording and stated that Prime Minister Paetongtarn had contacted Lt. Gen. Boonsin to discuss and clarify related issues. The General affirmed close coordination with relevant agencies, a consistent stance on safeguarding national interests and the importance of de-escalating tensions at the border.
