Syrian Kurds drive Islamic State out of Kobane

(VOVworld) - Kurdish ground forces with air support from the US and its allies have retaken the Syrian town of Kobane from Islamic State militants, said US Lieutenant-General James Terry on Saturday. Terry is Commander of the Combined Joint Task Force that has been leading air strikes against IS.

On Saturday, Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces and Iraqi police seized back Khubbaz oil field in Kurkuk province, northern Iraq, that was held by IS for hours. They freed 24 workers who were taken captive, and 8 villages.
