Kurdish forces gain control over Kobane from IS

(VOVworld) -  On Monday, Kurdish forces drove Islamic State (IS) militants from the Syrian strategic town of Kobane. Syrian Kurdish forces from the Popular Protection Units (YPG) claimed full control of Kobane. The Kurds are pursuing jihadists on the eastern outskirts of the town, but there is no more fighting inside its border.

US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said that the fight to gain control over Kobane was ongoing as the Kurds were in control of 90% of the town. IS has suffered its most devastating defeat after losing Kobane.

Meanwhile in Iraq, a top army officer announced that troops had liberated Diyala province from IS, taking control of all areas in the province
