The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that more than 200 militants had pulled out of the town during the night, withdrawing into the vast desert that stretches all the way to the Iraqi border. US-backed militias on Friday also declared the "total liberation" of the Syrian city of Raqqa, which for more than three years was the de facto capital of ISIS. ISIS controls only a small strip of territory along the Euphrates River in northern Syria.
