(VOVworld) - A ceasefire in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo will be extended by 48 hours beginning on Tuesday, according to the Syrian military high command.

Fighting has flared up in the divided city of Allepo, controlled by both rebels and government forces, which has resulted in 300 deaths since late April. Though facing challenges, Russia and the US announced on Monday that they will step up joint efforts to end the conflict and seek a nationwide ceasefire. They called on the various parties to cease attacking civilians and civilian facilities.
