(VOVworld) – On Monday, Syria’s military extended a unilateral ceasefire around Damascus and opposition strongholds in the eastern suburbs of the capital for another 48 hours.

The head of the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Lieutenant General Sergei Kurylenko, said the ceasefire in Eastern Ghouta district of Damascus has been extended for another 48 hours - until midnight on May 3 - by the Russian and US sides by agreement with the leadership of the Syrian Arab Republic and the moderate opposition. This is the second time this move has happened in the area. Kurylenko added talks are in progress on the ceasefire in Aleppo province.
Earlier, a ceasefire agreed by Russia and the US in Syria from April 29 has been applied in some areas in Latakia and the suburb areas of Damascus. Despite saying conflicts in Aleppo is unacceptable, Russia and the US have not managed to reach a ceasefire in this area.
