Syria has asked UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to a appoint special, independent, and neutral technical mission to investigate an alleged chemical weapons attack that the regime has blamed on rebels in northern Syria, Syria's UN Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari said on Wednesday.

The Syrian government and rebels have accused each other of using chemical weapons, but US and European leaders say there is no evidence of chemical weapon use. If it is proven, this will be the first time chemical weapons have been used in Syria’s 2-year civil war.
