Zoubi told reporters in Moscow that the Syrian government called for an on-the-spot investigation on the allegations that terrorist groups including al-Qaeda had used chemical arms in the attack at the town of Khan al-Asal near Aleppo that claimed the lives of 14 people and 50 injured. He said the chemical weapons could be transported from Turkey noting that Syrian troops had neither chemical nor other weapons of mass destruction as accused by the US.

In a letter to the Congress Thursday, the US government said that there’re signs that Bashar al-Assad’s administration had used chemical weapons in a small scale in Syria’s civil war. But the letter said the US needs more updated assessments before an official conclusion is made. Experts say the conclusion is likely to pave the way for interference of the US and some Western countries in the Syrian crisis. On the same day, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that the UN team was ready to be deployed in 24-48 hours to investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria.
