The suicide vehicle hit one of the armored vehicles of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on the road between Mogadishu and Afgoye, some 30 kilometers from the capital, killing 12 civilians in the minibus and injured 27 including 2 AMISOM soldiers. It was highly possible that Al-Qaeda-linked militant group Al-Shabaab planned the bombing.
This was the first attack after the killing of Al-Shabaab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane last week when a US drone strike in the southern Somali region of Lower Shabelle. The group vowed to launch retaliatory attacks against the Somali government and AMISOM targets.
