The statement by Hamdok’s office said he is under heavy security at home, and other government officials still remain in detention.

Most of the Sudanese cabinet were arrested and PM Hamdok was detained at top army general Abdel Fattah Burhan’s house during the coup on Monday. The armed forces fired at protestors supporting the government, injuring at least 12 civillians. General Burhan said that what the military did was not a coup. They just want to correct the path of the transition.

The Sudanese Embassies in 12 countries, including the US, the UAE, China, and France, have announced that they will not accept the military takeover. US Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said the White House is consulting with allies and looking at the full range of diplomatic tools at its disposal to respond to the military takeover.

The EU said this attempt to undermine Sudan’s transition to democracy is unacceptable. If the situation is not reversed immediately, there will be serious consequences for the EU’s engagement, including its financial support.
