These were the army's first air strikes on El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, 350 kilometers south of Khartoum. El Obeid has been besieged by the RSF since clashes broke out in mid-April.

During the past eight weeks, fighting has been concentrated in the capital, Khartoum, and in the Darfur region. Fighting in Sudan continues to spread despite efforts by Saudi Arabia and the US to broker a long-lasting ceasefire.
