South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir stressed the need for a longer ceasefire and “urged the Sudanese leaders to name their representatives and propose a date to commence the talks as soon as possible”, the statement read.

South Sudan offered to mediate between the Sudanese army and the RSF amid clashes between the two sides and is appointed an organizer for peace talks.

More than 500 people were killed and more than 4.100 others wounded amid the clashes in Sudan since mid April, according to Sudan’s Ministry of Health.

The UN said about 270,000 people left Sudan for the Republic of Chad and South Sudan, while thousands others fled to Ethiopia.
