Rajoy said he would fight off a no-confidence vote and serve his four-year term, and ruled out calling an early election. Rajoy told a news conference that this goes against the political stability that our country needs and it goes against the economic recovery. It is bad for Spain.
Spain’s opposition Socialist Party called a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy’s conservative government Friday in response to a corruption case engulfing the ruling Popular Party.
So far, the far-left Podemos party has said it would back the motion, while the market-friendly Ciudadanos said it won’t. In Spain, motions of no confidence must result in a new prime minister being elected in parliament.
