(VOVWORLD) - Spain's governing Socialist Party (PSOE) has won the country's parliamentary election but will need backing from smaller parties to stay in power. For the first time since the 1970s, Vox, a far-right party will have members in Spain's lower house of parliament.

With nearly all ballots counted from Sunday election, the Socialists headed by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez won nearly 29% of the votes. They captured 123 seats in the 350-seat Parliament. It is followed by the conservative Partido Popular (PP) with 65 seats and center-right Ciudadanos (Citizens) with 57 seats.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will likely ally with the left-wing Unidas Podemos and smaller, regional parties to form a government. Unidas Podemos' leader, Pablo Iglesias, has been open about his desire to enter coalitions with the PSOE.

The number of voters in this election was higher than in 2016.
