Pinera said he hopes Spain’s generous offer represents a solution, adding that Chile has shared the information with the leading authorities at the UN.
Earlier, Chile withdrew as the host nation of the climate change summit and APEC amid raging street protests there.
Chile has been in serious social crisis following the increase of metro fares by President Pinera’s administration. The demonstrations which have lasted for 11 days have quickly swelled into a much broader protest against inequality and the cost of living.
Clashes between protestors and police have claimed the lives of 20 people, injured hundreds of others. More than 3,000 people have been arrested.
