The FAA said in a statement that the Learjet 55 crashed Friday night (local time), after departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri.
At the time of the accident, there were only two aboard instead of six as previously reported. The FAA will coordinate with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to investigate the incident. The NTSB will lead the investigation and will provide all updates.
Video footage taken from security cameras near the scene showed the plane burning in the air and plummeting to the ground at a terrifying speed. Houses and vehicles were set on fire, with aircraft debris scattered over a wide area.
