(VOVWORLD) - Severe flooding and landslides triggered by torrential rains in the central region have claimed 36 lives and 12 others are missing.

Casualties were recorded in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, and Kon Tum.

Heavy downpours submerged many local roads. 870 hectares of rice and a thousand hectares of other crops were submerged.

The Vietnam Red Cross on Tuesday delivered a second batch of relief goods to Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, and Quang Nam province. A relief team from the Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee, led by its Vice President Tran Quoc Hung, arrived in Thua Thien-Hue on Wednesday to distribute the relief goods. Donations for flood-hit areas can be made through the Vietnam Red Cross until December.

The Vietnam Red Cross Society has to date provided 86,000 USD to central provinces.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung,  head of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, on Tuesday inspected recovery efforts and rescue work in the central provinces.
