Resolution 2650, which won the unanimous support of the 15-member council, notes that the situation in Lebanon continues to constitute a threat to international peace and security.
It commends the positive role of UNIFIL, whose deployment together with the Lebanese armed forces, has helped to establish a new strategic environment in southern Lebanon, It reiterates the Security Council's call for Israel and Lebanon to support a permanent ceasefire and a long-term solution.
The resolution also stresses the importance of and the need to achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the Middle East.
