Sanders took roughly 48 percent of the West Virginia vote, compared to 43 percent for Clinton. Mr. Sanders has now won 19 states, compared to 23 for Clinton, but he still faces a steep “uphill climb” to win his party’s nomination.

Meanwhile, so-called billionaire Donald Trump won the West Virginia Republican primary with 72 percent of the vote. In Nebraska, he won 60 percent of the vote and all 36 delegates on offer there. With these two victories, Trump now has 89 percent of votes he needs to become the Republican candidate.
