(VOVWORLD) -There is currently no basis for extending the agreement on the export of Black Sea grains because the part of the agreement related to Russian exports has not been enforced, said the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday.

"There is still time to fulfil that part of the agreements that concerns our country. Until now, this part has not been completed, and, accordingly, at the moment, unfortunately, there are no particular grounds for extending this deal," Peskov said.

The official added Russia has not officially announced a decision on the deal and will announce it in a timely manner.

In July 2022, the United Nations and Turkey brokered a grain agreement called the Black Sea Grains Initiative to help solve the global food crisis exacerbated by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the world's leading grain exporters.

The agreement has been extended three times and will expire on July 17. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow is considering withdrawing from the deal if barriers to its food and fertilizer exports are not overcome.
