The Kremlin said the Russian president stressed that protests in Donetsk, Lugansk, Kharkov, Slavyansk and other cities in the South-West region of Ukraine are the responsibility of Kiev leaders who don’t want and don’t have the capability to protect the interests of Russian people and Russian-speakers in Ukraine. President Obama expressed his concern about whether or not Russia is involved in the unrest in South-west Ukraine. Putin rejected these claims, saying they are based on unfounded information.

The two leaders agreed to continue seeking a diplomatic resolution to the crisis in Ukraine. A four-way meeting on the crisis, involving the EU, Russia, the US and Ukraine is scheduled to be held in Geneva on Thursday.
