(VOVworld) – The southern province of Kien Giang has hosted a seminar on rural and agricultural development strategy until 2020 with vision towards 2030.The event was jointly held yesterday by the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development of the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development, the Southwest Steering Committee, and the An Giang provincial Department of Agricultural and Rural Development. Participants reviewed rural and agricultural developments in the past 10 years, when agro-forestry and fishery grew rapidly and positive changes were seen in the agricultural sector, ensuring national food security. Vietnam’s exports sharply increased to secure a larger share of global markets and improve living conditions for people in rural areas. The plan’s targets include restructuring the agricultural sector to restore growth and foster productivity and competitiveness. Vietnam will call on the entire community for income growth and poverty reduction in rural areas to make rural and agricultural development consistent with national industrialization and modernization.
