According to an Agreement signed in 1998 and a 2005 Road Traffic Protocol between the two governments, 500 vehicles transporting passengers and goods from each country are allowed to cross the border each day.
Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung spoke at the road opening ceremony at Le Thanh International border gate: “I believe that the opening of thí road will help boost economic, trade, and investment activities. It will also aid in cultural exchanges, sports, and tourism between the two countries and particularly Vietnam’s Central Highlands and Cambodia’s Northeastern region. It will enhance the relationship between our peoples and benefit those in the border areas.”
The road inauguration was an important event prior to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s state visit to Cambodia on Thursday, and part of activities to celebrate 50 years of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic ties and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year.
