Results of 2019 census on ethnic minority groups announced

(VOVWORLD) - A ceremony was held in Hanoi on Friday to announce the results of teh 2019 census on socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minority groups in Vietnam.

Conducted  by the Committee for Ethnic Affairs and the General Statistic Office, the survey showed that the living condition of Vietnamese ethnic minority groups has improved remarkably in the last ten years while the population has increased to 16 million out of more than 92 million Vietnamese people. Sitara Syed, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Vietnam, praised the outcomes of the survey. Do Van Chien, Minister-Chairman of the Committee, said the census results will serve as a legal foundation to assess the implementation of policies on ethnic affairs in 2015-2020, and the socio-economic development strategy in 2011-2020, and build a socio-economic development strategy by 2030.
