Chien, who is also Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Border Guard Command, and member of Steering Committee on anti-IUU fishing, requested that Coast Guard Region 4 continues improving legal outreach to fishermen and strengthens patrols, inspections, monitoring, and management of fishing vessels operating at sea while strict penalties must be imposed on violations in order to remove the European Commission’s “yellow card” and promote sustainable fisheries.
During the peak anti-IUU fishing month, Coast Guard Region 4 is focusing on communication, application of information technology, and digital transformation, while coordinating closely with Border Guard forces to strictly control vessel movements, quickly and properly handle violations, prevent hotspots, and stop fishing vessels from illegally operating in foreign waters.
