Colonel Ho Song An, Director of Quang Ngai Provincial Police, said they are taking resolute measures to get the yellow card for IUU fishing lifted. “We are working with the local authorities to strictly handle violations. We vow to effectively carry out the task of combating illegal fishing in Quang Ngai province," he added.
As of Friday, Quang Ngai province had more than 4,700 vessels licensed for fishing, 100% qualified. All data has been updated to the National Fisheries Database system.
The provincial leaders determined that the monitoring of fishing vessels must be continuous and coordinated between the local government, functional forces and the fishing community. Do Tam Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, requested thorough handle of IUU fishing problems.
"The European Commission (EC) will inspect us so we cannot delay the combat of IUU illegal fishing. The main responsibility belongs to the Provincial Military Command, especially the Provincial Border Guard Command. The information and mobilization work has been completed. Now the Provincial Border Guard has GPS and tracking equipment to monitor the fleet at sea," Hien said.
