Speaking to international news agencies on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin said Russia had shared this proposal with Iran, Israel and the US. He admitted it’s a delicate issue, but said that, in his view, a solution to the conflict can be found.
According to Putin, it would be reasonable for all parties to seek an end to hostilities and move toward a mutually acceptable solution. Iran would be guaranteed the right to develop its nuclear program for peaceful purposes, while Israel would get absolute security.
The Russian leader said that, based on its intelligence, Iran’s underground facilities remain intact and Israeli airstrikes have not caused significant damage to Tehran’s strategic nuclear infrastructure.
Putin’s offer to mediate was also raised during a phone call with US President Donald Trump over the weekend.
