Despite an apology from the Turkish government, thousands of people on Thursday gathered to protest Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the 7th consecutive day. The wave of protest broke out when Prime Minister Erdogan came back after his 4-day visit to North Africa. Previously, police used tear gas and water canons to disperse a strike in Kizilay center square in Ankara. Hundreds of strikes have continued to take place all around the country due to “extreme response” of police towards protesters who are against a shopping mall construction project at Taksim square. The project was described as “the last straw” that turned strikes into the biggest wave of protest of Erdogan’s AKP ruling party since 2002. Statistics show that 2 people have been killed and 4,000 people have been wounded throughout strikes over the last 7 days in Turkey.
