(VOVworld) – A workshop was held in Hanoi on Friday to discuss ways to protect citizens’ legitimate rights and interests by settling administrative petitions. The event was co-organized by the Government Inspectorate and Germany’s KAS Institute. Participants said it is crucial to define the position and role of the handling of administrative petitions to improve its effectiveness. They added that it’s also important to improve people’s legal knowledge of the matter. Nguyen Tuan Khanh is Deputy Director of the Inspectorate Research Institute: “We should first formulate specific procedures to protect the constitution.  The establishment of the constitutional protection council and constitutional council should take into consideration people’s petitions. Their petitions regarding legal documents should be allowed and inspection agencies should be given more authority. It’s necessary to improve the qualifications and state management of administrative judges to ensure interdependence.”

Participants also agreed on the need to finalize regulations on petitions and their handling to better protect citizens’ legitimate rights.
