(VOVworld)- Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has stressed the importance of promoting ASEAN’s role to create security balance in the region.

In his keynote speech at the 15
th Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Friday, the Thai Prime Minister called for strengthened dialogues to increase understanding, cooperation and mutual support as well as opportunities for countries that are having problems at home and internationally. He laid a special emphasis on ASEAN’s role in creating a new balance in the region.
In regard to the East Sea issue, the Thai Prime Minister urged involved parties to work together constructively. He said ASEAN needs to reach a consensus on the East Sea issue to ensure peace and stability for the region. He supported peaceful solutions to disputes in the East Sea based on international law including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
