(VOVWORLD) - The Ministry of National Defense on Thursday presented the President’s decision to an officer assigned to the United Nations peacekeeping mission.

Major Tran Viet Cuong has been appointed to replace Captain Nguyen Tien Long as a Military Observer Officer at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

To date, Vietnam has deployed nearly 1,100 personnel to three UN missions and at the UN Headquarters.

The Engineering Unit No 4 and Level-2 Field Hospital No 7 are being trained at the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and Military Hospital 175 in preparation for their deployment scheduled for September.

The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations has coordinated with relevant agencies to prepare for discussions on the draft Law on Participation in United Nations Peacekeeping Mission at the 9th session of the 15th National Assembly.
