(VOVworld) – Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang has wrapped up an official visit at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the visit, President Sang met with Dr. Osipov, President of the Russia Academy of Sciences (RAS) and other Russian scientists and visited the Gazprom gas group. At yesterday’s meeting with Dr. Osipov, President Sang asked for further assistance in manpower training and mineral and seafood exploration. Sang witnessed the signing of a co-operation agreement between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the RAS for the 2012-2017 period, which he said will open new directions for comprehensive collaboration between the two countries’ key scientific institutes. On this occasion, the President conferred the title of Honorary Doctor on Osipov for his contributions to Russian science and his close links with Vietnam.

The same day, President Sang toured Gazprom, one of the world’s biggest gas groups and a strategic partner of PetroVietnam. The president said he was grateful for the Russian government’s favorable conditions that enabled the two countries’ businesses to operate effectively and expand exploration in Russia’s mines. Sang also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Gazprom’s provision of liquefied gas to PetroVietnam.
