(VOVWORLD) -President Vo Van Thuong on Wednesday received the Ambassadors of Qatar, Brazil, Slovenia, Portugal, Estonia and Guinea, who presented their credentials to begin missions in Vietnam.

Meeting Qatari Ambassador Khalid Ali Abdullah Abel, President Thuong said he hopes to welcome the Emir of Qatar to visit Vietnam soon this year, on the 30th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations. The President suggested the two sides actively deliver on their economic, trade and investment commitments, promote cooperation in oil and gas, renewable energy, electric vehicles, agricultural production, and promote the negotiation and signing of cooperation agreements in customs, justice, culture, and tourism.

Meeting with Brazilian Ambassador Marco Farani, the President emphasized that Vietnam is ready to cooperate with Brazil to discuss the opening of agricultural markets. He urged Brazil to work on early negotiations on a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR). Vietnam is willing to act as a bridge to strengthen relations between ASEAN and Brazil, between ASEAN and MERCOSUR, he said.

At a meeting with Slovenian Ambassador Alenka Suhadolnik, President Thuong said that the two-way trade turnover between the two countries reached over 570 million USD last year, which is not commensurate with the potential. He suggested the two countries further cooperation, especially in mechanics, automation, logistics, and food processing.

Talking to Portuguese Ambassador João Weistein, President Thuong asked the Ambassador to promote twinning relations between the two countries' localities. He suggested that Portugal continue to push other EU countries to soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement and push the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnamese seafood products.

Receiving Estonian Ambassador Hannes Hanso, the President proposed called on the two countries to promote investment and trade cooperation and expected that Estonia will support training for Vietnam in IT, digital transformation, and cyber security.

Meeting Ambassador of Guinea Aminata Koita, the President suggested the two sides promote cooperation in the agricultural sector, an area Vietnam has strengths and has successfully implemented projects in a number of African countries.

During his meetings, President Vo Van Thuong called on countries to continue to support Vietnam and ASEAN’s East Sea stance of resolving disputes by peaceful means on the basis of the rule of law, security, safety and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea.
