(VOVworld) -  President Truong Tan Sang has asked for better care of the elder citizens to help improve people’s livelihood and consolidate people’s trust in the regime. At a working session with leaders of Vietnam’s Elderly Association on Monday, Mr. Sang commended the Association for its activities over the past 17 years:“We need to work harder to take better care of the elderly. These achievements will help to improve people’s living livelihood, safeguard social order and contribute to national construction and defence. This work will also consolidate trust in the party and the regime.”

The President urged the Association to continue study the resolutions issued at its 4th Congress and review the law and regulations relating the elderly. He said special priority needs to be given to elderly people in remote, mountainous and disadvantaged areas.

Cu Thi Hau, the Chairwoman of Vietnam’s Elderly Association, says the Association has 7.7 million members nationwide. It has carried out effectively many programs and projects to assist elderly people over the years.
