President Luong Cuong meets UN Resident Coordinator, Heads of UN agencies

(VOVWORLD) - President Luong Cuong received Ms. Pauline Tamesis, United Nations Resident Coordinator, and heads of UN agencies in Vietnam on Thursday in Hanoi ahead of his trip to the US to attend the 80th UN General Assembly High-Level Debate in New York.

During the meeting, President Luong Cuong outlined Vietnam’s development priorities, highlighting the country’s efforts to deepen international integration, promote green growth, advance science, technology, and innovation, drive digital transformation, strengthen law-making and enforcement, boost the private sector, and improve education, training, and universal healthcare. He called on UN organizations to enhance cooperation and provide more effective support for Vietnam, particularly in policy recommendation, promoting science and technology collaboration and capacity building.

Regarding the UN General Assembly session, President Luong Cuong shared Vietnam’s key messages, including the “Vietnam story” of overcoming hardship, healing war wounds, transforming and rising strongly, engaging deeply with the international community, and calling nations to uphold the value of peace and embrace transformative changes to build a sustainable future.

Reaffirming Vietnam’s strong support for multilateralism and the UN’s central role in global governance, he pledged that Vietnam would continue to make concrete, responsible contributions to international efforts.

UN Resident Coordinator Pauline Tamesis praised Vietnam’s leadership and strong commitment to multilateralism and the UN. She emphasized that the 80th UN General Assembly is a pivotal moment to advance international cooperation on peace, development, and human rights. She commended Vietnam’s impressive achievements, particularly in poverty reduction, socio-economic development, institutional reform, gender equality, inclusive growth, and leaving no one behind.
