(VOVworld) -   The PM on Friday asked ministries and relevant agencies to prepare a plan for the compensation of 500 million USD received from the Formosa Hà Tĩnh Steel Corporation.

Speaking at the government’s online monthly meeting for June with provinces and cities across the country on socio-economic development, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and concerned ministries to set up a draft plan to use the fund for different purposes.

Mr. Phuc said that support should be given to offshore fishing for long-term and sustainable effectiveness together with direct support to fishermen suffering from losses due to the fish deaths.

He requested the Finance Ministry be put in charge of setting out draft plans to submit to the Prime Minister within the month.

PM Phuc said: “We will never develop the national economy without environmental protection. People are complaining about several projects including a project on the Hau River in Hau Giang province. We should increase inspections and check that it will not affect the local living environment. The Hau River and its lowlands cover a large area. We should be more serious in the issue. We will not trade off economic development and investment attraction for a safe environment.”
