The forum’s discussions focused on investment, trade, customs, tax, and employment. Prime Minister Dung said in some localities certain people used anti-China protests as an excuse to destroy the property of several foreign businesses and cause social disorder. Mr. Dung said the Vietnamese government has taken steps to deal with the damage and help affected businesses quickly resume operations. Dung said Vietnam is committed to preventing any recurrence and is taking practical steps to help enterprises stabilize their production.

Prime Minister Dung said the Vietnamese government is drawing up a five-year socio-economic development plan from 2016-2020. The plan aims to make Vietnam a strong, independent, prosperous, and democratic socialist country with a just and civilized society. Dung added that Vietnam is committed to fast, sustainable economic development, and that Vietnam aims to stabilize its macro economy, restructure its economy, and create a favorable environment for foreign enterprises and investors to do business in Vietnam.
The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce on the sideline of the Vietnam Business Forum.

Prime Minister Dung said that Vietnamese government will continue to improve its investment environment and create the best possible conditions for foreign investors, including Taiwanese enterprises. Regarding recent disruptions to foreign enterprises in Vietnam, Dung said China’s illegal deployment of its oil rig Haiyang 981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone resulted in spontaneous rallies in some localities and destruction of private property at Taiwanese businesses. Vietnam has taken steps to help affected enterprises return to normal operation.

Representatives of the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce praised Prime Minister Dung’s efforts to restore order, guarantee safety, and help Taiwanese enterprises stabilize their production. They said they will continue to expand their investment and implement projects in Vietnam.
