At the meeting in Can Tho city, Prime Minister Chinh affirmed that infrastructure investment, especially transport infrastructure, is a major policy of the Party and State, and an important political task of the Government.

The Mekong Delta region has seen the start of multiple expressway projects, including Chau Doc-Can Tho-Hau Giang-Soc Trang and Cao Lanh-An Huu. Projects that have been already started are My Thuan-Can Tho and Can Tho-Hau Giang-Soc Trang-Bac Lieu-Kien Giang-Ca Mau. By 2026, the region will have about 554 km of expressway.

The Prime Minister urged for greater efforts to accelerate the implementation of projects and solve arising problems. He asked the project management board, supervision consultants and contractors to ensure progress, quality, safety, techniques, aesthetics, and environmental sanitation. Human resources, modern equipment and machinery must be mobilized for to meet technical requirements, he said.

ODA projects play an important role in socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta, especially in sustainable development and climate change response, according to the Prime Minister. Localities need to carefully study, calculate, and select projects which use ODA capital and new concessional loans effectively, he said.
