(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered the tightening of social distancing measures as COVID-19 continues to spread in Vietnam.

In a recent dispatch, the Prime Minister urges authorities of Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces of Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Long An, and agencies concerned to take drastic, strict and effective actions to enforce social distancing and other prevention and control measures.

The people’s compliance with the measures plays a decisive role in the success of the fight, the dispatch said.

The PM called for attention to offering all possible support including human resources and medical supplies to Ho Chi Minh City and the 3 provinces.

Rapid COVID-19 testing must be conducted on a large scale, especially in the entire Ho Chi Minh City during social distancing to detect and isolate positive cases as soon as possible. Vaccines must be prioritised to Ho Chi Minh City, the dispatch said.

Communication work must be also stepped up to raise public awareness of the effort and resolutely fight and refute false and harmful information.

HCM city has  led the caseload in Vietnam with nearly 176,000 infections recorded since the latest wave of coronavirus hit Vietnam in late April, followed Binh Duong (more than 70,000), Long An (more than 17,800), and Dong Nai (more than 17,600).
