At a working session with officials, research and vaccine production units, and scientists in Hanoi on Friday, the Prime Minister said that the COVID-19 pandemic is ravaging the world and Vietnam. He called for vigilance without letting our guard down and compliance with pandemic prevention regulations.
According to Prime Minister Chinh, the vaccine strategy includes vaccine import, technology transfer and domestic production, which have been aggressively pushed by the Government. People are given vaccine jabs free of charge, he said.
On Thursday, Vietnam’s health and science officials met to mull the approval of homegrown COVID-19 vaccine Nanocovax for emergency use.
Nanocovax, developed by Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, has begun phase 3 clinical trials involving 13,000 people. More than 1,000 people have received two shots in this final trial.
Three other homegrown vaccines are being developed by the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals, the Vaccine and Biological Production Company No. 1, and the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals.
