Speaking at the event in Tam Ky town, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that the first general election has left many valuable lessons. He quoted General Vo Nguyen Giap as saying at that time that “electing deputies to the 1st National Assembly, the Vietnamese nation is the first in Southeast Asia to establish a state in the form of universal suffrage, the highest level of democracy.”

That was the democratic spirit of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh from the very first days, Prime Minister Phuc said, adding that this first general election remains a lesson for Vietnam today to refine the current electoral regime. It is a general election to build the government of the people, by the people, for the people.

During the past 14 National Assembly tenures, Quang Nam voters have elected 110 National Assembly deputies representing Quang Nam province.
