At a joint session in Manila, both Houses of Congress adopted a resolution accepting the official vote tally, in which Duterte won a landslide victory, a lead of more than 6 million votes over his closest rival, Mar Roxas, the former Secretary of the Interior and Local Government. In that session broadcast live on the national television, congresswoman Leni Robredo was proclaimed as Philippine Vice-president, succeeding Senator Ferdinand Marcos.

Duterte and Robredo from different parties will replace outgoing President Benigno Aquino III and Vice President Jejomar Binay at the end of next month for a new six-year term.
