The Pfizer pediatric vaccine is just one-third of the strength of the dosage given to adults and teens. It will be given as a two-dose series, with the doses three weeks apart.
The decision awaits final approval from the CDC. Following the FDA's green light on Friday, the CDC is expected to follow suit on 2 November, meaning jabs for five-year-olds could begin as soon as a day later.
Earlier, Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines were authorized for children aged from 12 to 15 years old.
