Daines, a Republican, is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Hagerty, a Republican, is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Senate Appropriations Committee.
During telephone conversations with US Senators, General Secretary Lam applauded their contributions to developing the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the United States. They have promoted the US Senate's adoption of a resolution commemorating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in December 2025, demonstrating bipartisan support for Vietnam and the Vietnam-US relationship.
Looking ahead, the General Secretary suggested that both sides build upon the foundation established over the past 30 years, including exchanges of delegations and parliamentary cooperation. He proposed maintaining stable and sustainable economic, trade, and investment relations, and urged the US Congress to continue providing resources to support Vietnam in addressing war consequences.

The US Senators reiterated their strong support for boosting a more substantive and effective Vietnam-US relationship. Senator Daines said Vietnam is an important economic partner of the United States in the region and expressed his hope that the two countries would soon finalize a reciprocal trade agreement. He also appreciated Vietnam's participation in the Board of Peace.
Senator Hagerty expressed his desire for the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to be further deepened based on the shared interests of both countries. Both sides have made significant progress in negotiating a fair and balanced reciprocal trade agreement, the Senator said, adding he believes that with an open, frank, and respectful spirit, the agreement will soon be finalized.
