President Putin said that after sending a congratulatory letter, he proposed a phone talk to directly congratulate President Lam on being elected General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He expressed his confidence that General Secretary and President Lam will lead the Party, State and People of Vietnam to reap more successes in building the Party, building and developing a more prosperous and stronger country.

General Secretary and President Lam thanked President Putin for his congratulations and affirmed that Vietnam values the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia and determines that this partnership is of strategic importance and one of the top priorities in Vietnam’s foreign policy.

During the phone call, the two leaders discussed and agreed on major future directions within the framework of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
